An article in a magazine and statements made by one of our guests came together for me today.

The quote was "...more and more Americans are finding travel not a luxury but an essential life experience."
-Klara Glowczewska, Conde Nast Traveler Magazine

The article was referring to traveling for the cultural experience and bringing people together.
It is a insightful and inspiring article and I highly recommend the magazine.

The guest went with me, J D, on a vortex tour and said as we were walking along
that as soon as she first saw me at the resort,
she knew I had her answer. I knew that she would find it, because she had decided so.

After we silently walked the labyrinth, she smiled and said she got what she came for. Great!
I only have an inkling of what the situation was. That's enough. She had the answer all along, but I am honored
she chose to have me participate in finding it.
I know I am the catalyst, not the wisdom keeper. I take people to the right place at the right time,
try to be silent and get out of the way. (Truly difficult for a tour guide :-). )

Archeology Dig

   Recently, with the permission and help of the owner, we began excavating a site at the Rock Art Ranch.
Our guests have actually found large unusual pottery shards and have dug up some amazing things.
     It doesn't go quickly. Archeology excavation has been described as moving a mountain with a toothbrush.
And you can't keep any of the objects we are measuring and documenting.

It is the vortex energy that brought me as a visitor to Sedona 20 years ago.
I am still learning and growing and still enamoured with this wondrous place.

   Each of our vortex experiences is different, depending upon the questions asked by the visitors.
We talk of the history and the science of the vortex phenomenon.
We travel to a vortex site, a labyrinth, the stupa, a medicine wheel and some of the most beautiful places in Sedona.

For those of you who fly your own planes, we have a unique opportunity.
We offer a tour of the ancient petroglyph site in the high country of Arizona.
The carvings extend for over a 1/4 mile and span 7000 years.
This is considered one of the world's best petroglyph sites according to the archeologist at NAU.
Look for Rock Art Ranch in other areas of this website.

We include fine dining at the historic La Posada Hotel.
The Turquoise Room at the La Posada has been named for 2009 one of the
top 3 restaurants in the USA by Conde Nast Traveler magazine.

We will be happy to meet you and your guests at the Winslow airport and take you on the tour.
The airport was founded in 1929 by Transcontinental Air Transport as a landing site for a transcontinental air route.
It is the last remaining TAT airport. It has also been used as a training base for World War II pilots.

The airport in Winslow is equipped to handle your large plane.
I have been told the runway is the second longest in Arizona.

Nearly every tour, someone wants to know about the Sky Walk over Grand Canyon.
From Sedona, you would be better served to fly. It is hours out there and a very bumpy road.
May we offer instead the Chevelon Sky Walk?

It is above the petroglyphs at Rock Art Ranch. Has picnic tables and extra benches.
Yeah, I know. You were looking for the other one. Sorry. Just had to do it.

Tours of Eliphante

You may have read the January 2008 article in the New York Times about
the late artist Michael Kahn and his wife, Leda.

Arizona Highways Television filmed Eliphante.

A Public TV show (based in Kansas City) called "Rare Visions & Roadside
Revelations" filmed this summer and the show is seen on over 100 stations.

A couple from France filmed Eliphante for a television pilot.

And there has been a request from a London, England company for filming.
Whew! We are happy to be so busy.

Come see this amazing place before the crowds arrive.

Access to the home is by crossing through the waters of Oak Creek.
At this writing the waters have receded and we again have access to Eliphante!
This week the crossing has been so dry we even drive the minivan across.

The petroglyphs you'll see on this tour are older than the Stonehenge,
older than the Pyramids in Egypt. They are over at least 7000 years old and
a sandal found in the canyon was carbon dated to 9,500 years old.

This working cattle and buffalo ranch, the , I Lazy V brand, is the real Arizona,

Eliphante, Michael Kahn and Leda's masterpiece

Michael Kahn, who passed away on the Winter Solstice, December, 2007.

With the help of his wife Leda Livant Kahn, he created Eliphante.
He is and will be missed very much by all who knew him, including this writer.

Michael and Leda, are internationally known artists who created a sculptural garden, a masterpiece, called Eliphante in northern Arizona, near Sedona. He had a gallery on Cape Cod years ago and after moving to the southwest, he continued to paint while they constructed a series of buildings that made up their home. They used materials found in the environment such as driftwood, stones, broken glass, flying concrete and pieces of pottery.

The fantastical structures include sunken labyrinth galleries, stained glass, lofts, domed chambers, tunnels, standing stones, sculpture, mosaics, hand carved wood but most importantly, Michael and Ledas' paintings.

A tunnel with stained glass skylights casting rainbows onto its walls leads us to a domed chamber decorated
with stained glass, a mosaics of stone, plaster, paint, and wood.
Behind charming hand carved doors we wind through mazes of art and
are invited by chairs and soft floors to relax and enjoy.

A visit here means letting yourself play, taking in the forms, patterns,
colors and textures with all your senses.
Our first visitor expressed her joy by saying “My soul feels better."
Visitors to Eliphante have exclaimed-
    "I have a new style of sculpture as a result of what I saw here. I can't wait to get home and begin!"
    "It is obvious he loved her so much that her created this beauty for her."
    "The land is barely able to contain the exuberance."
They have even sat down in the dome with the stained glass and cried for the joy of it.

One of our guides, Duane, is an Arizona native of European descent raised on the Navajo Nation.
You'll also find his picture in the "About Us" photos. He is a master beadworker and an amazing mystic and helps us with out website. He's a man of many talents and a joy on tour.
J D gets much feedback and many letters raving about his work. Most everyone he has taken out on tour is coming back next year to travel with him again. They often plan their stay in Sedona around his availablity.
